Data Visualization App

I redesigned an Android/iPhone app using data visualization for a leading manufacturer of green technology. App Store and Google Play usage.

My client is a leading manufacturer that empowers building managers & owners to monitor, save, conserve, and positively impact the environment by cutting millions of gallons in fuel consumption. By using a complex network of unique sensors that allow for unparalleled sensitivity and control — and savings.

Smart temperature sensors help to maintain ideal temperature conditions and automatically detect failure or faults as they happen.

Process

Technology

My client serves over 5,000 customers who monitor their building’s temperature using their app interface. My goal was to develop an app that uses the latest SMART technology that can view, analyze, and control each building’s temperature using SMART sensors and the latest green technology for heating efficiency.

The Challenge

Simplify complex data and make it super intuitive for the user to understand

Innovative, but ambitious

Project Goals

With the interface, I’d create, the goals revolved around the users and stakeholders.
Goal 1: Develop a different approach for simplifying complex data
Goal 2: Know about and fix building issues before they happen
Goal 3: Flexible enough to meet additional user needs
Goal 4: Build trust and reliability for old and new clients

User Research

Learning about our users

I conducted a series of 13 Zoom interviews of existing users who used the old app. Below are 2 user interviews and include personal data. Research notes and insights occurred at the end of September 2021.

Key insights from user research

The key user insights were broken down into 3 categories; positive and negative feedback and a wish list. Not only were users requesting newer technology but also wanted a Cost Savings and Boiler Control features.

User research and critical responses

Prototyping

From findings to features

A new pathway

Based upon the user research, the user flow was revised to meet user needs.

Frame 1 (1)

First things first

Ideation sketches were first developed for Sensor Data screens

The Sensor screen had top priority as it’s the most important screen of the new app.

From sketches to wireframes

After getting feedback about the ideation sketches, the number of options were narrowed down and the wireframes were created.
